pages of history tell an inspiring story of a nation
that won independence 43 years ago and progressed
remarkably over the years. Today, Malaysia stands
tall as one of the leading countries in Asia and voice
to be heard in the world.
As
we reap the rewards of our success, let us come together
to celebrate the birth of our nation. For just as
Malaysia has given us all we need to become the success
we are today - peace, stability and racial harmony,
just to name a few - she will continue to spur us
to achieve our vision of tomorrow. A great future
for our loved ones and future generations. Happy

Merdeka Day
Launch Event
Date: 17 August 2000
Time: 4.00pm
Venue: Dataran Merdeka
This event, to be launched by our honourable Prime
Minister, is a significant one this year. It will
be a month's celebration from 17 August to 16 September
2000. Some interesting events in this celebration
include Raising the National Flag and the Flag Run
that will be held in every state.
Special Prayers
and Tahlil for the 43rd National Day
Date: 25 August 2000
Time: After Friday prayers
Venue: In all mosques throughout the country
A special thanksgiving from Malaysians, to commemorate
the country's independence. Other religious events
will be held too, in conjunction with this event.
Christians - "Morning Sermon"
Date: 27 August 2000
Time: Morning
Venue: All Churches
Buddhists - "Puja"
Date: 29 August 2000
Time: Morning
Venue: All temples and Buddhists societies
Hindus - "Pooja"
Date: 25 August 2000
Time: 7.30pm
Venue: All temples
Sikh - "Kirtan Katha"
Date: 23 August 2000
Time: 7.00pm
Venue: Gurdawara Sahib, Sentul
Merdeka Eve Celebration
Date: 30 August 2000
Time: 8.00pm - 12.30am
Venue: Dataran Shah Alam(National-level), all state
capitals (State-level)
A countdown to 12 midnight on 30 August to usher in
National Day. Various cultural events, songs and dances
will be staged by all races in Malaysia. This will
be a live telecast by RTM
Merdeka Day Parade
Date: 31August 2000
Time: 8.00am - 10.30am
Venue: Jalan Persiaran Perdagangan, Shah Alam, Selangor
Besides the parade, the interesting line-up includes
rhythmic gymnastics, National Day logo formation,
choir presentation and more.
Closing Ceremony
of the Merdeka Month Celebrations
Date: 16 September 2000
Time: 7.00pm
Venue: Teluk Likas, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
A celebration to mark the closing of a month's celebration
of our National Day. Distinguished guests include
the Timbalan Yang DiPertuan Agong, Chief Minister
of Sabah, the Prime Minister and Deputy Minister.
An array of Sabahan culture and arts will be presented
in the evening.
